We’re not done awakening the trailblazers yet as planned, so for this special extra large THANKSGIVING DAY episode, Gerald’s put together another exciting trivia episode to expose how little Daryl and Clarissa know, even when the topics pertain to things previously reviewed on this very show! We’re joined for the festivities by a special guest, Dawn from the Anime Nostalgia Podcast, who accepted this invite with about 2-3 hours notice and just woke up prior to the start of the recording.
This episode is brought to you by Right Stuf Anime, whose annual Holiday Sale is now live, so be sure to check back every day for new deals. Every order placed until December 26th gives you an entry to win a $250 gift card. You can also enter without purchasing anything by just filling out this form. Normally I would have recorded this and put it in the episode, but it’s 2:15 AM and in order to make this post, I have to remotely log in to my home PC from my parents and–whatever, I don’t have a microphone handy okay?!
Supernatural is, as the name should give away, a FANTASY series, not sci-fi.
This podcast is so good, almost 3 hours. I am escaping from the visitors at my crib I spend cleaning my storage unit the podcast echoes the entire 2nd floor. greetings from the pot-hole city of Houston TX
Ranma 1/2 had the first series “Ranma 1/2” which was 18 episodes, and the second series “Ranma 1/2 Nettouhen”, which was long. The number of episodes that “Ranma 1/2” has is therefore less than 52.
[Although I am fully aware of this because I always tell people “you don’t need to bother with the second series,” I have gotten enough flak over the years from people who correctly point out that the US release makes no such distinctions between the two series the way that they do for say, Naruto vs Naruto Shippuden, that I didn’t bother to press the issue. –Daryl]
I was sort of hoping Hirameki International would get mentioned when talking about dead anime companies. I was recently researching their release of Soar High! Isami and just really enjoyed looking up their history of localizing visual novels and releasing those goofy AnimePlay DVDs that you can still get for a dollar or two in almost any used video store.
Anyway, great epsiode as always guys!
I’ve already listened to this episode over 5 times……
Jesus…what am I doing with my life?
Great episode. Make more.

Where is your god now, commie? Now I know that my favorite podcast is run by thin-skinned shitlibs. [Your favorite podcast is run on a site where first-timer comments and people who aren’t using their real email address are automatically moved into moderation queue that have to be manually approved and I got videogames to play, but just for mouthing off and formatting your replies in such a way that I know you spend a lot of time on anonymous imageboards, I’m re-flagging any future posts you make for moderation. Not because I’m thin-skinned, but because it’s annoying. –Daryl]
You know, some instances of the “bike slide” might have been thought up independently.
It would be highly unlikely to independently come up with that exact camera angle, for that exact distance, with that exact pose and shot length. It would be even more unlikely to do all of that independently and have anyone believe you, though as Even a Monkey Can Draw Manga taught us decades ago, whenever anyone is accused of copying Otomo you can just say “oh no, not ME: my influence is Moebius who influenced Otomo!”
I really love these episodes and it was so long too, perfect for me today
I’ve watched the first 6 or 7 episodes of Brigadoon within the past year or so and it didn’t strike me as being remotely sexual; that letter writer sounds like he’s mad at the show for arousing him.
Well you have episode 9 where they’re all running around naked in the bathhouse, plus they’re all dubiously young looking. But I’d categorize that into the “oh that’s Japan” goofy anime trope, s’opposed to sexual.
Ninja Nonsense and that other anime I can’t remember with the husband/wife piloting giant robots in a pink suit were more sexual… maybe he went off the Japanese cover on the aniDB page.
Be careful what you wish for… gosh dang-it almost 3 bloody hours. I wish I was back in college with that amount of time on my hands. The hellfire of subjects covered in this episode was ace; but I can’t remember what exactly I agreed with due to the discursive nature of it, save for Daryl saying something about Let’s & Go then Chromehounds.
Great show & happy holidays! Here’s a picture of Street Fighter Si… (what number are on right now?)

Some of the best 3 hours I ever listened to.
What is the name of that title that Daryl compared to Suicide Squad? [Without re-listening to the episode, it was most likely Cyber City Oedo. Hmm, why am I not getting the “Please moderate” email notifications once again to let me know this was sitting here? –Daryl]
I think it was actually Wild 7 in this instance.
The only part of Suicide Squad that was remotely close to Cyber City Oedo was towards the very end of that stupid film. That might be the only light of redemption I could give that film, but it got an Oscar so what the heck do I know about movies.
